Anyone wishing to get a free preview of the type of entertainment offered at the Queen's should be at the China Steps Thursday July 19 as the Woodshed Orchestra plays a free concert from noon to 2 p.m. The ensemble performs later that evening at the Queen's Hotel.

Woodshedding is said to be one of the most ambiguous jazz terms in our lexicon, a fusion of music born out of improvisation and intense practice, but when it comes to the Woodshed Orchestra, the term can be used to define their expansive sound.

I mentioned in my second article a few months back that I live above a bar downtown, The Merchant Ale House (henceforth to be referred to as The Merch). In that article, I said that usually when bands play, I just ignore them from above. This isn't always the case, however. There is one band that I will go down to see every time they play. That band is Dave Clark and His Woodshed Orchestra.

This week's 50 River Concert will be bursting the seams of The Back Room, Thursday, November 18th as a high-flying and electric affair featuring two powerhouse collectives of musicians, Kingston’s The Gertrudes and Toronto’sDave Clark’s Woodshed Orchestra. Be sure to drop by The Imperial Pub this Thursday to witness a mind and auditory expanding experience and participate in an amazing event.

Saturday the 12th, Steph and I walked into the Pepper Jack at 9 pm and the Woodshed Orchestra was just picking up its instruments. The place, very sadly, was almost empty. No matter. The nine musicians that occupied the stage proceeded to make complete and total magic together…All night.
